Infection Control in Foot Care
1.0 CE Credit

The purpose of this course is directed at nurses who are providing routine foot care to their patients or clients. We will cover the importance of preventing cross contamination, disinfectant methods for instruments, and preventing the spread of airborne contagions.

Much of this course is covered as part of universal precautions and processes taught in general nursing and healthcare training, but this course will go a little bit deeper into how foot care nurses and podiatrists can protect themselves and their patients during clinical examinations.

This course will cover various regulating bodies and publications, but be sure to consult your local healthcare regulating organization to make sure that you are applying proper standards of care.

This course comprises 1 Continuing Education credit.

Objectives of this Continuing Education Video Course

• Discuss the disinfection and sterilization recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control relative to instrument used in routine foot care
• Discuss the steps and processes in cleaning and appropriately disinfected instruments and equipment used in routine foot care
• Discuss effective and ineffective methods of disinfection and sterilization
• Describe the issues of personal protection related to the dust which can be caused by mechanical sanding of toenails
• Discuss methods that can be used to protect the patient and the foot care nurse from respiratory issues during sanding of thickened toenails
